Position Summary

The APRN provides direct patient care aboard OCAI’s mobile medical coach and at approved community-partner sites, delivering general/family medicine, selected urgent-care services, and sexual-wellness services to medically underserved individuals across Sarasota and Manatee counties. Responsibilities include patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing non-controlled medications, HIV/STI clinical management, PrEP and nPEP, onsite injection administration, venipuncture when needed, results management, documentation, and appropriate follow-up and referral coordination.

The APRN will not work alone on the mobile coach. Trained clinical or program support personnel will be present during operations and will ordinarily perform rapid HIV testing, intake, vital signs, and routine specimen collection within their training and authorized scope. The APRN is responsible for the associated clinical evaluation, interpretation of results, counseling, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, injection services, and follow-up. When operationally or clinically necessary, the APRN may be asked to perform venipuncture to collect blood specimens.

 

This community-facing position requires sound clinical judgment, dependable communication, effective teamwork in a nontraditional care environment, and flexibility across a scheduled mix of daytime, evening, Saturday, and occasional outreach services.  Additional responsibilities include collaborating with community partners, supporting health education and outreach efforts, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives that enhance culturally responsive care.

This is an on-site role, approximately 28–30 hours/week, based in Sarasota, FL, with work conducted in the mobile clinic and community locations.

Qualifications​

• Current, active Florida APRN license (NP or CNS) with autonomous practice authority — Board of Nursing registration, 3,000-hour supervised-practice requirement completed — and national board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., Family, Adult-Gerontology, Infectious Disease, Men or Women's Health)

• Demonstrated clinical skills in sexual health, HIV/STI prevention and treatment, PrEP/PEP management, and primary care for diverse adult and adolescent populations

• Experience using electronic health records (preferably Athenahealth), including accurate documentation, ordering labs, and coordinating care with pharmacies and diagnostic partners

• Strong skills in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and LGBTQ+ affirming care, with a commitment to serving underserved and marginalized communities

• Ability to work independently in a mobile clinic environment, including making autonomous clinical decisions, managing a flexible schedule, and adapting to varied community settings

• Excellent communication, counseling, and patient education skills, including explaining complex health information in accessible language

• Knowledge of public health principles, community health practices, and familiarity with programs such as 340B, CLIA, and applicable state health department regulations
